Water Less During the Winter Months

As we move into the winter months, it’s a good time to reset your irrigation controllers to just one day per week, since most plants don’t need as much water in the cooler months. Also, it’s a good idea to take advantage of the free water whenever we get rain by turning off your irrigation controllers one day prior to rainfall, and at least two days afterwards. Collecting rainfall in your rain barrel is also extremely resourceful.

This is also the best time to plant drought tolerant California native plants! The cooler months allow them to become more established in time for rains in the spring. Remember, we’re in a drought, and every drop counts!
